What am I up to Now!
As we Fly into August I realised its been along time since I updated this 'blog'. Its been a hectic time for me as of late, alot of personal stuff going on and on and on, one could compare it to the movie Ground Hog Day. But on the jewellery side of things I have had my head down and bum up as usual, its the only thing keeping me slipping off the cliff of insanity into the abis!! I have just bought some copper, after trying to chase some down here I had to end up ordering from overseas again, but finally it arrived and I have really enjoyed the different medium to work with, copper is so pliable compared to Sterling Silver,Sterling seems to have a mind of its own at times and can be quite frustrating as it 'work' hardens when bent and needs to be annealed to soften it up again to avoid the risk of becoming brittle and snapping whilst working, which can be a real pain when your half way through something!! So far I have made some Cuffs and wrapped a couple of Ox Bone moonfaces which finally arrived from Bali, I intend on trying out some finish's on them tomorrow, I shall post some pics once that is done. I have a STACK of finnished sterling jewellery here,as yet unlisted, my most hated part of making jewellery is taking pics and writting the descriptions,oh and working out the price, its always half of what I decide when I am working on something, lol, especially when its taken me few days to make. Well thats about it for now,I shall be back, although I am experiencing alot of computer problems so have been drastically cutting back on the internet until I can put my laptop into the shop and have it checked out, I guess I am paranoid it has some deadly virus, I have had a couple of occasions when the screen has gone completely pink(?) and its frozen, I have heard of the blue death screen(virus) but never the pink!! perhaps its the girls version!! lol Take care and thanks for stopping by, greatly appreciated.
25 march 2010.............Well I finnished the necklace and Choker set, however, before I could get to take proper photos of it completed, I sold it!! lol NOt too sure if I will be in a hurry to make another one, I wrecked my best pliers(the rings where very heavy guage and hard to open and close) and my hands where very blistered and sore from opening and closing all those rings! but, never say never I guess. ....we shall see.(I have just requested a quote for some Aluminium rings to make another bra top) I am currently finnishing off some Sterling Silver and Handcarved Gemstone Goddess necklaces which I have been working on, I was waiting on some Patina gel from the USA(couldnt locate it here) so I could give the sterling silver an antique finnish which I did yesterday. I hope to have some photos up soon, stay tuned... Update on yesterdays post (4th March).....some more work has been done, I decided to make braided leather straps on the bra top, I finnished the choker off and wove leather through the top rings so it ties in with the top,I have done the main row of rings down the center but also want to run a row of rings with clips from the choker to each side of the bra top ring, I will see how it looks anyhow, just waiting on my model(daughter) to get out of bed so I can do some measurements, her expected time of arrival is aprox 2pm(she is an insomniac like her mum) hopefully I can get some more work done tonight!!....here are the latest pics
Well its the beginning of March already! Where does the time go???(3 March) Lately things have slowed down alot so I have been working on a project to use as more of a showpeice than a 'regular' listed store item, its a Chainmail Slave top/bra/choker, not really sure what to call it, all I can say is my fingers are sore and there is still alot to do, I dont have a pattern or plan, Im just working it out as I go along, which is usually how I make things.Well its sort of how I live my life too I guess, which is not a very productive way to do things in the big wide world, lol. Nevermind, things still manage to get done, and those that dont. well they probably werent that important anyhow, Im going to try and pop a pic in here to show you where I am up to on this 'project' I shall post more as it progresses, its about a weeks solid work to get to this stage, so Im not sure how much time will be used to complete it. I have made it out of Silvertone rings as they are the most economical to use, and considering I dont have a pattern I didnt want to waste a hundred dollars or so of aluminium rings and then end up quitting if it becomes the impossible task, ok here is a pic or two
oh and the secret freagle word is (Family) Last entry,Captains log,13 February 2010...ok ok sorry, getting sidetracked here ...mid February and whilst waiting on more Aluminium Jumprings to arrive from America I have been dabbling in some twisted wire Jewellery, amongst other things. A few of these are listed, you can find them under Unique Creations with names like BLOOM and EVE(so named because of the Turquoise goddess in her Garden of Eden) but tommorrow I will take a step back to do something I used to be actively involved in a few years ago, Art Photography, so with a basket of Jewellery, my SLR Camera and my Gorgeous teen daughter we are going bush!! Out to use the fire ravaged Bushland as a backdrop for a series of Black and White Photos I have had planned for a while.About 8 years ago I studied Art Photography at Tafe in Sydney for a couple of years and loved it,I was awarded Art Student of the Year in 2001 and recieved and Award from the Education Minister of NSW at a formal Awards Night, I was also selected as an entrant in an Arts Comp which had my piece touring the Art Galleries in NSW,an achievement I am very proud of to this day. Due to lifestyle changes etc I closed the shutter on that part of my life for quite a few years, sold off my little dark room and all the equipment and forgot the pleasure it used to bring, to really REALLY look at something, things we see everyday but never really look at,the world we live in is a truely amazing place,if only we take the time to really look! So, enough dribbling on,out comes the camera tomorrow,on go the hiking shoes and off we go! Wish me luck! I hope the Gremlins dont get me!! .................Update....we made it back in one piece, here is a little bit of what we shot
